The pilot system (Phase 1) of the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System is now under vacuum and connected to the blower and flare, which ensures that methane and other byproducts of landfill biodegradation are captured and burned. The pilot system has successfully burned and further testing and upgrades of the system are ongoing. Upcoming work will include reinstalling the final portion of the liner and placement of a layer of soil on top as cover.
On Tuesday, January 31, City Council accepted the bid submission from SCS Field Services for the Landfill Gas Collection System expansion. This expansion will involve the installation of 35 new gas wells at the quarry landfill to assist in mitigating the ongoing odor issues, extracting fluid and vapors from the waste mass, and treating the removed fluid and vapors. The City is coordinating with SCS Field Services regarding a mobilization date for the drill rigs.
