December 6, 2022 Update

Posted on December 6, 2022 at 1:53 PM by Joey Lamie

On Tuesday, December 6, Bristol (Virginia) City Council approved two contracts, totaling more than $12 million, for ongoing work at the quarry landfill. The first approved contract is for Phase(s) One and Two of the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System. The second approved contract deals with operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the quarry landfill’s existing gas collection system. SCS Field Services was awarded both contracts and submitted the only bid received for each project.

The approval of these contracts is an important step in the continued efforts to mitigate and remediate odor issues at the quarry landfill. Phase One of the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System is for 222 feet of work to test for effectiveness of the project’s design. Phase One is expected to be complete by December 31, 2022. Phase Two of the sidewall work will involve the construction of the remainder of 4,700 linear feet of sidewall. Phase Two is projected to be completed by June 13, 2023.

The City will continue to provide public updates on the important progress at the quarry landfill as construction begins on the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System.
