The City of Bristol, Virginia would like to invite the public to an Information Session, Monday, July 9, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room of the Bristol Public Library, to address the establishment of an ADA accessible parking area to access the Mendota Trail at its Bristol, Virginia terminus on Island Road.
The City of Bristol, Virginia is partnering with Mountain Heritage Inc., to establish a parking area for the Mendota Trail in Bristol, Virginia. The Mendota Trail is a 12.5 mile hiking-biking recreational corridor between Bristol, Virginia and Mendota, Virginia. While the trail is located solely in Washington County, it southern terminus is adjacent to the Bristol VA city limit line. This location is a prime access point and the most logical location for a Trail parking area that would allow handicap access to the trail. The trail has been steadily improved as funding becomes available. Several sections of the Mendota Trail are accessible now and include one mile of trail starting in Mendota and one rehabilitated trestle. From the Bristol end, there is one mile ready of trail ready to be groomed for accessibility; however, a parking area is needed to allow access.
Mountain Heritage is now strategically poised to provide access to the trail segment that leads out of Bristol, VA/TN, a community that has a combined population of approximately 45,000 people.
Establishing trail access in Bristol, Virginia, and promoting the Mendota Trail in our community that has a combined population of approximately 45,000 people is expected to generate significant economic activity for the City of Bristol.
This activity will not only benefit existing merchants, businesses and residents but may encourage new entrepreneurial growth.
Please join us Monday evening at the Bristol Public Library to see a video of the Mendota Trail and to have the opportunity to ask any questions or convey any comments you may have regarding the development of a Mendota Trail access in Bristol, Virginia.
